The Swedish AFO is a plastic low profile, trim-to-fit ankle foot orthosis to support foot drop caused by a mild to moderate neurological deficit of the dorsiflexors. It's slim design makes it an easy AFO to fit into shoes and a low maintenance option. It contains a full length foot plate which can be easily trimmed with scissors and an open heel to reduce risk of pressure sores behind the heel. Foot drop is a condition that prevents someone from actively lifting their foot at the ankle joint when the leg swings through in the gait cycle. This can be dangerous as it can cause one to trip and fall over.
For best results, use the Swedish AFO with a closed shoe that has a lace or velcro fastener.
